OKC knows how to generate points off the board
As the new season gets underway, let us take one last look at team rebounding. The points off rebounds in the chart below looks at rebound scoring not in the traditional sense. Instead of looking at the sum of the individual attempts and the scoring from those attempts off of rebounds, we take a more holistic approach. We take the sum of rebounds and then derive total points from the team's Uniform FG percentage. Uniform Field Goal percentage is a weighted by attempt, between 2s and 3s, average of the traditional Field Goal metric. What the chart below is showing us is that OKC is really good at turning missed shots into points. Additionally, this stat becomes a proxy for the scoring skill of the front court. Teams high on this chart have big men who can finish missed shots, but also can grab boards on the defensive end.
